Moose are great swimmers, can fully submerge for 30+ sec, & dive up to 5m deep! When a moose submerges its head, the difference btwn water pressure & air pressure causes specialized structures w/in moose nostrils to seal the nose! The deeper they dive, the greater the pressure, the tighter the seal!

Otters have pockets. The skin under their armpits makes a natural fold that they keep things in.

It is understanding all the little miracles that are comparatively worthless but emotionally salient.

Throughout history, pecans have been overlooked, poached, cultivated and improved. Today, American trees produce hundreds of million of pounds of pecans – 80% of the world’s pecan crop. (via @us.theconversation.com)

👀 ... giant grease balls ...
grease floats.

when it flows in sewage and into our plants, it thickens as temps fall, separating in our settling tanks.

the churning water forms grease globs that build like snowballs, and operators remove them so they don’t clog the process.

listen. don’t pour grease down your drains.

Nearly the entire brussels sprouts supply in the US comes from California’s central coast.
Brussels sprouts grow upright on a tough, woody stem. This picture is a partly mechanized harvest, but a crew of workers used machetes to cut off the stalks in the field, while another worker trims off the leaves as he feeds the stalks into the machine. It's grueling work especially when it is hot.
