The full speech which was entered into the Congressional Record, Vol. 109, Senate (1963-12-18). Link in above post.
Resonates to this day, throughout history and across the globe.

"The modern conservative is not even especially modern. He is engaged, on the contrary, in one of man’s oldest, best financed, most applauded, and, on the whole, least successful exercises in moral philosophy. That is the search for a superior moral justification for selfishness." J.K.Galbraith

Remembering the great C.S. Lewis who passed away on this day in 1963 aged just 64.
I read The Problem of Pain, A Grief Observed and Mere Christianity as a student. Incredible works.
RIP Clive Staples Lewis 🙏

Today is the anniversary of the assassination of John F. Kennedy.
62 years ago today.
Still a shocking event.
RIP JFK 🙏

And while we're at it, I posed the reverse question to ChatGPT:
If Stevenage were a well-known celebrity, which one(s) would it be.

Intriguing!

I also grew up in Stevenage and spend a significant time in my hometown.
I'm appalled and disturbed by this hideous comparison.😡😱

I asked precisely the same question to ChatGPT. My sincere apologies to the residents of ...

On this day, 19th November, in 2012. I paid off my mortgage, several years earlier than planned, saving me quite a bit. I did that by switching providers on a range of utilities, plus being frugal whilst food shopping and cutting down on non-essentials.
Fortunate to buy when house prices were lower!

Guardian front page 17th Nov 2020 featuring two former residents of Stevenage. The pride of the town!

My parents knew the Younge family quite well as they lived close by. All three sons are a huge credit to their late indomitable mum.
My Dad had a passing acquaintance (pubs!) with Lewis's father.

Fantastic to see @roxannemusic.bsky.social perform as support for Howard Jones at Symphony Hall Birmingham. Deeply moving to hear her sing accompanied by a recording of her grandfather. As a German teacher, hearing 99 Luftballons was amazing! Echt super! Danke! 😊🙏

Just had a go at the quiz questions - they're within the article. Pretty awful result! 😬 Even my one and only correct answer - to question 1 - was a stab in the dark. 🤷‍♂️
Have a go! Great questions!

13 years on and this story remains just as belly-achingly hilarious!

10 years ago today at Moor Street Station Birmingham, I was bewildered to see a man bring his kitchen sink onto the train. At least he remembered to pack it! 🤷‍♂️

A few puns to be made here, but I can't be bothered! 'Tis late. 😴

The first three albums by a-ha are superb!

Ignore the "boy-band" tag and listen!

#SuzanneVega was simply wonderful at Symphony Hall, Birmingham! Last saw her in 1987 at the NEC with a dear friend who sadly passed away 10 years later. It was emotional! 🥲❤ Hugely impressive set too by support, #KatherinePriddy from Brum.
So glad I could make it. Beautiful singers, songs, venue.🙏

HUMILIATION for the Daily Mail as it will probably have to change its front page story in the light of the letting agency email!

Happy 12th Anniversary to the great Library of Birmingham!
I took this photo on 3rd September 2013, the day it opened. A significant moment in the city's history.

I've been reading up a lot recently on the origins and legend of St George. Intriguing to read what is known, and not known, how he became a saint and what the churches - Protestant and Catholic - believe today.
How strange then to open up an old newspaper and to find this article.
