The second exhibition at Tallinn City Life Museum, “Lyndanise. Reval. Tallinn. City Life Through the Centuries” was even more focused on material culture & how it has changed through Tallinn’s history. Not massive but a lot of small artefacts to discover so just a few sneak peeks as a teaser 3/

Although the Sarve coins are notable in the local context, Sindi-Lodja’s Stone Age settlement & the discovery of potentially the oldest house in Estonia has nationwide & regional impact. So I was really happy my colleagues got the award for Find of the Year! Congratulations, @silviakask.bsky.social!

Marge Konsa introduced results of the #excavation which started 17 years ago. Despite its discovery nearly two decades ago, new analyses are constantly changing our perception of the #Vendel period (Pre-Viking Age) in the region. TIL one of the swords was encrusted with Sri Lankan garnets! 2/4

Trade between NE Barbarcium & Roman Empire continued through the #AmberRoad but Roman & Italian artefacts have been considered very rare in Estonia. However, my preliminary study has shown that this claim appears to be overexaggerated & not take into account new information 3/4

Estonia's part in the Amber Road has been questioned for long but more recent research has shown that raw amber was indeed found & collected in #BronzeAge Estonia (Saaremaa) at a time when it was a material high in demand in the Apennine peninsula (& elsewhere in Southern Europe) 2/4
