As I say in my budget post I don't think there was ever a serious plan to raise income tax. My best guess is it was designed to be the rabbit on the day before the FT found out.

When will hacks realise that the spin they get from spin doctors is just spin from people whose job it is to spin them a line and therefore too unreliable to be relied on?
If this episode doesn’t do it, there’s no hope for grown up political journalism 🙃
