I've been playing with GenAI as a brainstorming partner. Like a co-designer / co-creator / co-author, and its been interesting.

In a lot of little ways it fails. It changes a name, or a motivation. Creates a new mechanic or just adds one I've told it no on.

It also doesn't feel ... right

Super shameful seeing the President of the US bully the President of Ukraine. Made all the worse by the fact that I just found out a co-worker in Ukraine was killed in action the other day.

Thinking of an analogy for CI/CD, and sometimes in board games there's action points you spend to do things, and one thing you can do is have more action points next turn, that's CI/CD.

What that means is that the earlier you invest the bigger the return. It also tends to be cheaper to do up front.

"2024 marked the first year GitClear has ever measured where the
number of “Copy/Pasted” lines exceeded the count of “Moved” lines."

Even after Trump is gone we should keep the executive order renaming the Gulf. That way we have to raise generations of kids and explain why the map has the wrong name.

Continuous integration minimizes the risk of integration conflicts by working in small steps and integrating frequently, unlike feature branching. This promotes team collaboration and faster, higher-quality software development.

This is why CI > Feature Branching.

Taking down the Kanye video. No matter how cool the tech + devs behind it was, its pretty clear we should't be promoting it in any way.

I love code reviews and think they should be a gate to code getting into mainlines. Here's why:

When you're solving a problem there is a context which you build up as you work through the solution - even when pairing or mobbing there is still a shared context. 1/4

Here's the other thing with RFK Jr. If you ignore the crazy stuff and focus on the healthy eating stuff it's still bad.
He wants to make heavily processed food and additives illegal.

If you think the price of eggs are a problem wait till you see what happens when shelf stable bread is illegal.

I've been working on analysis we can run on a codebase irregardless of language. This graph is an experiment in measuring coupling. In this case the code is good, files that change together are close together.

Somebody yelled at me for posting about Ganymede instead of /the state of things/ last night.

I know we’re (almost) all on the same page here, but a Bluesky without cute cats, science facts, and dumb jokes would be bad for everyone.

@markey.senate.gov @warren.senate.gov I don't know if this really needs saying but as my senators please don't vote to confirm RFK Jr. to lead HHS next week. If confirmed he will use his power to spread vaccine disinformation and children will die as a result.
