For @soundspheremag.bsky.social I took a look at how the festival and awards season films have the connective tissue of grief and unpack it in their own unique ways.

Big week of interviews so apologies for the spam. Spoke with Ballad Of a Small Player screenwriter Rowan Joffe about bringing Lawrence Osborne's work to life. The film is on Netflix now.

Had a brilliant chat with the brilliant trio, Say She She a couple of weeks ago. The full write up is now live in @clashmusic.com. Urge people to check out their back catalogue and especially Cut & Rewind.

Deliver Me From Nowhere isn't the only Bruce Springsteen release coming out. There's a comprehensive reissue of Nebraska with the fabled electric sessions. Took a look at it for @clashmusic.com.

The fact the weakest era Tame Impala (by some distance), is now his most commercially successful is really depressing. Lonerism still his peak.

One of my favourite films from LFF this year was The Secret Agent. A towering performance from Wagner Moura, who I hope gets plenty of awards season love. Full review for @spybrary.bsky.social.

Another #LFF review for @flickeringmyth.bsky.social. This time it's for Bradley Cooper's Is This Thing On? Loosely inspired by John Bishop's life. It's his most intimate film with one of Will Arnett's best performances and great work from Laura Dern.

Another LFF review. For @moviemarker.bsky.social one of my most anticipated of the whole fest - Sentimental Value which for the most part more than lived up to it. This will be a huge awards player. Can't wait to revisit at Xmas. A great role for Stellan.

Playing today at LFF is Kelly Reichardt's art heist subversion The Mastermind featuring another wonderful turn from Josh O'Connor. Here's my full review for @flickeringmyth.bsky.social, also chatted to Rob Mazurek about its sublime jazz-infused score.

Ok looking for some good gothic/light horror movies for October post LFF. Preferably not too many jump scares and more mood atmosphere. Got The Wicker Man lined up and currently watching The Shining.
