Unfortunately, both Asteria and Mama are aware that once this connection is shut down (with the process using up every drop of Desire Asteria has left), the pact will be considered complete and Mama will lose sentience and revert back to being a toy permanently. Might as well make every moment count

As the Key of Hope native to Etheriys, Asteria's 2nd pact allows her to control the connection Library (and by extension the Cage) has to her home world. The connection is located in The Tower at Paradigm's Breach, and Asteria wants to shut it down so that the events of SINoALICE don't happen again.

It's eventually revealed that Mama gained sentience through the combination of Asteria's memories of NieR Reincarnation and her remaining Desire from the Library that was brought forward to her 2nd pact with Parrah and Noya (the same pact that Hydaelyn and The Twelve hacked).

When Asteria first got the Mama Automaton, it suddenly sprung to life as though it was the same Mama from her time in the Cage, much to the surprise of both. Mama since then has been accompanying Asteria for majority of her journey from ARR all the way until Shadowbringers.
