Another streatery bites the dust. So depressing. I cannot imagine the negative financial impact this loss of seating will have on Beau Thai and hope they take rigorous notes. These public-facing gathering spaces help make our neighborhood so alive at night, and probably make them safer, too.

My entire grad school class this quarter has highlighted this specific problem: AVs do and will continue to only INCREASE vmt. It is a majorly concerning step backward in the progress away from car dependence.

“Statistically, pedestrian bridges are demonstrably not safer for pedestrians. Because the bridges give drivers a sense or perception of exclusive and unbridled access to the road, they are less likely to be mindful of pedestrians or cyclists.”

1. Cars are the biggest source of climate pollution in the country.

2. Transportation is the biggest household expense after rent/mortgage.

2. State and local gov't could cut these numbers by about 25% in five years without any federal policy.

Somebody solve this for me, what should we do? 🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️

DDOT continues to publish before/after analyses of safety projects. The numbers for the 9th street NW bike lanes suggest that we should be doing these projects everywhere we can. Crashes plummeted, pedestrian and bike traffic skyrocketed, and vehicle travel times dropped.
