Use bikes to do what needs to be done as much as possible (groceries, kid to school, library, get Christmas trees etc.). PhD in Astronomy some years ago. Enjoy computer programming as a hobby and for work. Help researchers use computer clusters and cloud.
Well.. here is one, but with a picture. The Stars in Paris from 2015.

Thinking about a new sticker, thoughts?

After a bit of thinking I realized your comment made sense depending on the type of bike lane you might be thinking of. I was thinking about something on the far right. The quick-build with a pinned concrete curb (not shown), or the full build.

So proud of my 7yo biking to camp so there is one less car on the road. Doing his small part to make a better future for all.

I saw a bumps ahead sign in the entrance to the bike lane today. I have been taking photos of all the cars parked in the bike lane. I don't know how many I have of those on my camera.

While biking my kid to school today I spot this. That is an unusual looking muffler. Looks a bit like the muffler in a picture I found about rolling coal. Is this legal? Seems like not in some states in the US. I couldn't find anything about this in NS. If not who should I report to?

While my son and I rode to the 5k cafe along the Colt, he wanted a break so he rode on my bike and we strapped his bike to the back. Ecargo bikes can do a lot sometimes things you can't do with cars.

Not quite big enough for a helicopter pad on the back yet.. actually doesn't look like the back is much bigger at all.

Will the approved $150M, Windsor Street Exchange redevelopment project improve traffic?
February 27, 2025 at 8:55 PM
I try little bike computer, oh I try, but with so many distracted drivers and so little separated bike infrastructure it just isn't possible to completely avoid distracted drivers :(.

My 6 yo son built a sidewalk plow today out of Lego. He really wants to help the city clear the sidewalks.

7 day power usage, January update. Very roughly it looks like we are using maybe about half the amount of electricity to heat with a heat pump as compared to electric baseboard heaters on previous years.
February 11, 2025 at 1:20 AM
4/6 Which those designs repeatedly failed to support. See below image for quick explanation of why the Windsor St. Exchange won't solve traffic problems.

Update for December plus a tiny bit of January on our power usage since switching from electric baseboard heaters to heat pumps.

Update on our power usage since switching from electric baseboard heaters to heat pumps starting to show a significant decrease in power usage.
December 8, 2024 at 8:37 PM
Made a graph of power usage over 7 day periods. Previously we had electric baseboard heat. Still a little too early in the heating year to really see how much it will reduce our energy usage, though it is on the lower side of the previous year-to-year energy usage variation.

Inspired by @tomflood.bsky.social floods poster style and a video form @ohtheurbanity.bsky.social I made a new poster. When I have some time/energy I will try to put some up around HRM.

Hey @hfxgov.bsky.social here is your solution to SG rd. pilot. We have the technology now, we just have to use it. There is some urgency to reducing the amount people drive, 6 years to half our GHG emissions. Then in 10 years when you figure out how to make a gate work, you can replace with that.

This is how 97% of our trips are done by bike. This is an exceptional case, we usually don't have to transport 3 kids bikes, a kid, 4 cases of soda water, 50 juice boxes, an ice-cream cake, large plastic box filled with various things, and a freezer bag.

These are just a few intersections on my way to/from my son's school. I assume this small part of the city is nothing special and the rest of the city is likely the same.

Would you want to drive a car over piles of snow this big? Why is it OK to walk, push a stroller, use a scooter through them?

The storm ended Monday. The roads were clear Tuesday. These pictures where talking Thursday.
