My mom was killed by a car a week ago today. While sidewalks and bike lanes wouldn't have saved her specifically, it's infuriating to see Doug Ford treat lives like hers as worthless, as he prioritizes cars over people at every opportunity.

These deaths are preventable. Doug Ford just doesn't care.

I can feel her hugging me. I can feel my face buried in her shoulder. In her coat. In her sweater. Her warmth. Her support. Her love. Her neverending care.

I can hear her voice saying, "I love you. I'm so proud of you."

I love you too, mom. I miss you.

I loved my mom so much. She made me the person I am today. The parts of me that remind me of her feel heavy, suffocating, on my chest.

They are the best parts of me.

She always told me, "Do whatever makes you happy."

I hope she knew how much I live by that.

Many have pointed out shock: refusing to believe it's real. While I know grief comes in waves, I know it's real.

Anger was my initial reaction because I know nothing will come of my mom's death, and hatred towards the system that forces people to drive and to die every day without consequence.

My mom will never pick up my nieces from daycare again.

My mom will never get coffee with her friend again.

My mom will never send me pictures of the cats again.

My mom will never text me "I love you" again.

The only solace is that she will never feel pain again.

When the news broke to the public, her phone lit up with condolences for my sister and I.

My mom's life was quiet. Quiet, not empty. Quiet, not sad. Quiet, not lonely.

People cared about her more than she ever knew, ever believed. Her family, despite her never feeling close to it, aches in unison.

My mom always claimed she didn't have many friends. That she didn't have much going on. I always pushed back, saying, nah, I'm sure you do, you just don't realize it.

She almost convinced me she was right. Almost.

I checked through her phone. There were so many texts from people worried about her.

I can see it perfectly in my head, down to her running over yelling, "Oh my god! Are you okay?!"

It is painfully in character.

She never worried about her own health, safety, and happiness. Her first thought was ALWAYS other people.

She was the most selfless person I knew and will ever know.

> So let's stop pushing for another disaster.

Cool! We're in agreement then because I ain't pushing for more LRT anytime soon.

Nor am I engaging further after this. I've said all that can be said. If you wanna continue wasting energy infighting, you're more than welcome to. I ain't reading it.

At the end of the way what matters is making transit an option for people. It is VITAL we make it reliable and *resilient* to what the future has in store

Line 1 has not shown itself to be resilient, much the opposite

The Transitway though? What's left of it is going strong decades after opening.

We have spoken to many councilors now, and they have all been SHOCKED when we tell them about what we have heard from front-line transit employees.

If you wanna talk change, real change, then stop chasing this idea that rail is perfect when it's not.

There are literally DRO trainees sitting around doing nothing because we can't train them, so the DROs we *do* have are being worked to the bone and are therefore dropping like flies.

And guess what. Councilors tend not to know about ANY OF THIS. Not a WORD of it.

The LINTs are showing their age and lack of maintenance.

We didn't buy enough FLIRTs.

Line 2 wasn't double tracked, so it's already overcapacity.

There's a chronic diesel rail operator (DRO) shortage made worse by the trainers' certifications all expiring at once, ie. we can't train more DROs.
