I'm proud of (and grateful for) this remarkable @upenn.edu sophmore for speaking up about the importance of science.

In 2012, Whitehead became the first child treated with CAR T cell therapy, a treatment developed at Penn Medicine; she has been in remission since.

🪦 New Yorkers are in front of the New York Stock Exchange for a mass die-in to symbolize how these devastating cuts will destroy families & take lives.

Deep spending cuts to programs like healthcare, food assistance, and education is a matter of life & death for millions.

The thing about scientific research is that it’s one of the few national investments that’s a clear public good even if you entirely discount the actual ostensible point of it.
New report shows that NIH grants fueled $95 billion in economic activity and 407,782 jobs in 2024.

That's not to mention the countless lives that biomedical research has saved.

Show me a better investment than that.

Wow. "NIH" canceled my co-mentored (with Dave Sulzer) PhD student's F31 funding. His work is on understanding the genetics and neuroscience of language learning disorders. F31 provides no indirect $ to Columbia, just pays his salary. Not that it should matter, but he's an American citizen. W.T.F.

I want to say thank you to all the women who are older than me and fought for everything we have, to the women who never pulled up the ladder behind them, to the ones who walked into the room as the first woman ever to be there. Thank you 🙏
