And from an optics perspective for Frank, when the number one concern of a fanbase is can you make the step up, are you a bit smalltime, and you do that for the NLD, it's so so damning

Because when the hypothetical upside doesn't feel enormous, days like yesterday become even harder to take

Like many in the media, and I know this irritates some fans, I've always found Frank extremely personable and respectful - which is not nothing given some of his predecessors. But obviously that's not a priority for supporters and I can see why many feel sense of ennui and drift

Because does anyone *really* believe he's going to be here for years and be Spurs' Klopp/Arteta? He's always instinctively felt to me like the stabilising in-between guy.

And so when you get a result and performance like yesterday what are you left with?

But the broader issue imo is that if you go with a safe pair of hands manager, you're so results dependant. Because what is Frank if not a kind of sensible Ange antidote who will make Spurs competitive again? And with a manager like TF you can't even really talk in project terms

Ha, I did not. No way I was risking it on live television

about say going to Twickenham or looking forward to the Lions Tour. Think there's partly a perceived punching up element and, as others have noted, rugby competing more with football with when it's played etc

Yeah, quite possibly. Just find it interesting that a lot of the cricket stereotypes - TMS, a day out at Lord's, etc - are pretty white, middle class and yet people wouldn't feel self-conscious about talking about them. Not that they should, but the same people would get crucified if they talked...
