Yea it’s usually 95-100/101 in early Sept, which…given the dryness, doesn’t feel too bad. Hot, yes, of course. But not unbearable. Especially in the shade.

Evenings are *amazing*

I know this sounds crazy to people from other states, but with expected high of 92 tomorrow in Phoenix…. I bet you find that it feels more like a “normal” summer day, and *not* like that “you’re in an oven” heat that most people expect. Have fun!

Great point. I remember the 00’s/10’s discussions re: the end of monoculture & how great it was going to be. Barriers to entry removed, more indy talent reaching the masses, etc. And it was true to an extent. But it was also a major factor in how we got here (plus the greed of late stage capitalism)

And don’t get me started on the destruction of undivided attention and our fried brains… Yes, we are also shedding the toxic aspects, and I was initially happy about the end of the toxic stuff. But I mourn the loss of the good stuff: Robust artistic production by geniuses, consumed by the masses.

We are losing everything underpinning that good side of “celebrity”. As you said, film and music industries have been hit so hard. So many angles, including: The billionaires aren’t patrons, the regular folk are getting priced out of everything. (2/3)

Exactly. Celebrity *culture* definitely became very toxic over the decades, and late stage capitalism/the commercialization of the arts became destructive in many ways. BUT, initial modern “celebrity” was largely rooted in profound admiration and respect of world class actors, singers, etc… (1/3)

Totally agree. At first, I regarded the flop as a good thing, & I had a health dose of schadenfreude. But now, I’m starting to wonder if it’s more of a canary in the coal mine — another warning signal of very serious decline in our society. I’d love to read a multifaceted analysis of this topic.

Yep. And *we* need to do wayyyy more Black history (and culture) instruction and preservation in our homes, churches and communities. It needs to become constant.

They are clearly intent on purging Black history from all aspects of “their” society.

We gotta be okay with leaving certain types of people on the other side. Everyone ain’t worth conversion. We shouldn’t aimlessly want loser men unless they’re getting delivered first
