High school teacher rule number 6: good calls home. Also, anytime you see or meet a parent, go crazy about how awesome their kid is and how amazing they are in class, how much you love them REGARDLESS of anything that might have happened in class. Your relationship w/ that kid will be solid forever.

Number 6 high school rule: use a seating chart and rearrange to make sure students are next to people they feel comfortable around but also can be successful around. Where students sit can make or break a class. And have your seating chart on day 1. Move as needed after. #edusky #backtoschool

Number 5 high school teacher rule: beginning of school edition: The biggest lie you are told is be mean in the beginning. The number one thing kids are wondering and nervous about is if you are nice or not. Be the nice one and also have high expectations. Both can happen simultaneously.

I always wanted the frames that you can store work/art in and hang in the classroom but they are very expensive. These were really inexpensive!

Number 4 high school teacher rule: students won’t remember your fancy lesson plans. That isn’t to say that those aren’t awesome and that students won’t learn from them. They will learn, they just won’t remember. What they will remember is if you liked them, & will learn more if they think so #edusky

Number three high school teacher rule: understand the adolescent brain. Don’t know about it? Read up. They may be taller than you, but they are children. It’s not about you. Don’t come at other people’s children like they are adults. Seen it too many times. #edusky #teacherrules

Number two high school teacher rule: tone of voice. It’s not what you say, it’s how you say it and what place it is coming from #edusky #teacherrules
