It's certainly not the most efficient way, but:
a) using the quadratic, it shows that there can be at most 2 solutions
b) the solutions to the quadratic (here, 5+-sqrt(6)) have geometric meaning, whether positive, negative, or unreal

So there is an entire class of right triangles (with an inside altitude of 1) whose hypotenuse is the product of the legs.

This broke my brain this morning.
