I imagine some of that work would involve correcting single frames with various distortions and damages in the original source.

They definitely failed to understand that vintage tape stock like quadruplex was never designed for hd formats.
They have done restorations of recordings like that with more subtle and effective settings.

The problem was likely an attempt by the AI to make this tape stock footage look far more detailed than it really was, they should’ve used it as a more subtle upscale.
