Anyway, the recording of the debate is here if anyone is curious - it's worth watching if only for the MSPs who speak in support: www.scottishparliament.tv/meeting/meet...

I don't think I got a sense of what anyone was actually going to DO about it, which is the most salient takeaway. All the emotion in the world won't matter unless there's an actual strategy in place for how to fix it. One clinic for half Scotland's population is crazy!

I mean, honestly, 'on the verge of tears' is exactly how you should be feeling if you're Minister for Public Health and Women's Health and looking at a situation this disastrous, but still. Will it result in anything? We'll see.

It's theoretically been a successful year professionally, but not in any enduring way, unfortunately, & has just burdened me with a lot of extra stress. All my successes are so ephemeral & often unrecognised in this system and I need a whole new skillset if I want to take off in a new direction. FUN

The longer answer is:
Fell in love w/ English Language, graduated & decided against academia, got a temp admin job at a university to pay the bills, followed it into more uni admin positions, now in mid 30s watching the industry start to come apart and struggling to figure out where to go next

I don't call them nightmares b/c despite their intensity and frequent horror trappings, they usually come off more action-y than anything (I'll be safe if I'm smart/mobile) but sometimes they are "someone is about to go zombie & I must persuade them to hand over their younger sibling before they do"

Oh but you might enjoy this other random Scottish cultural bit: we have trick-or-treating over here but historically it was called guising, and we don't get sweets by saying trick-or-treat, we traditionally get them after we've told a story, or sung a song, or told a joke, or played a magic trick :)

I wish it wasn't the case!!! 😭 I will defend Celcius and A series paper, but I cannot defend end-of-March/end-of-October daylight savings shenanigans

I'm usually a "it's probably more important for kids to go to/from school in the daylight than for us to have light in the evenings" kind of person but also: 5 months of this??? Really?????
