What fictional creature/villain traumatized you as a kid?
Madame Medusa in The Rescuers. I think mostly because she didn't have that fairy tale sheen. I would have been 7 when it came out, but I'd already been taught about what guns could do.

Looks like it really started to pick up after 2006, but that may have given it a boost. Interestingly, if you limit it to Britsh English there's nothing for WWII, but a bump between 1984 and 1994. My first thought was the Falkands War but that was 1982.
