85 is great, but is not what one might reasonably call "good." The Heisei are what I cut my teeth on; so many of them are SO MESSY. I wonder if i might be a better writer if I had been a Gamera kid.

So this was released 29 years after Tokyo was destroyed by Allied bombing in WWII. I'm wondering maybe if kaiju movies during the Showa period were a way of reckoning with post-war reconstruction? And maybe the Economic Miracle to some extent too.
