Cantina Sounds: Star Wars source music
@cantinasounds.bsky.social
Exploring diegetic music — music the characters hear and make — from a galaxy far far away, in movies, TV shows, video games, and theme parks. I'm @jere7my.bsky.social. Spreadsheet of 500+ Star Wars diegetic tracks: bit.ly/cantinasounds
"Taxi Source" is an unreleased cue from the sixth season of the Clone Wars, probably by one of @kinermusic.bsky.social (though I'm not sure). It's an extended industrial hip-hop track that really deserves a proper release, since it fills a big gap in the Star Wars musical genrescape.

"Cid's Source" is a @kinermusic.bsky.social (specifically Deana) jam from the 2nd season premiere of the Bad Batch, an insistent dobro with a Wild West vibe and some funky percussion beneath. This is extra-clearly diegetic because we hear it in Cid's office only after the door opens.

202 days ago, we heard "Ma Chukui", a change added for a VHS release of Droids. Tonight, for day 215 of #TheDiegeticShuffle, we hear the broadcast original, which I call "Heeah Hooah Hee-Hah", credited to Patricia Cullen, David Greene, and David Shaw.

On day 213 of #TheDiegeticShuffle we're bringing you Feb Rozo and the Sap Tap Trio with their hit number, uh, "Hap's Sap Tap source 1"! (Cue name not official.) It's by Matthew Margeson and it showed up in the third episode of Young Jedi Adventures. I want one of those shakes!

Louis Johnson on "After Hours at Oga's": "…a couple months back I got one of those emails…it was my friends at Disney asking for a modern recreation of the Star Wars cantina scene for the new theme park. long story short, I did like 10 versions and they'll be using one of them!"

This was our pick for day 211 of #TheDiegeticShuffle, btw. Blutopians first appeared in Rogue One, and got their name from their creature shop nickname ("Blue Top").

Not only did I find Johnson, but I also found an unreleased track from Oga's! He says on Instagram, "The song above is one of the rejects but one of my favorites. I titled it, 'Toydarian Crooner' and had a blast fucking with the vocals to give it an alien vibe." www.instagram.com/p/Br8XCKxBZS...

In reality it was composed by Louis Johnson, whose common name made him tricky to track down. Buuuuut I did! Johnson is a Nashville musician originally from Florida who performs solo as Lonas (www.lonasmusic.com) and as a duo with the Saint Johns first-avenue.com/performer/th....

Zeb is just trying to enjoy some space waffles and listen to some Stereolab-esque avant-pop, but Ezra and Chopper have other plans on day 210 of #TheDiegeticShuffle.

It's not clear how much of what we hear is diegetic—some of the singing is, but the full chorus ("a blend of international vocalists and languages") and percussion are ambiguous. It was the first cue Abels wrote for the show, as it was performed on camera. www.motionpictures.org/2024/06/the-...
November 28, 2025 at 2:12 AM
It was composed by Pulitzer Prize-winner Michael Abels (michaelabels.com), who also composed the scores for "Us", "Nope", and "Get Out", and Pablo Croissier (www.pablocroissier.com/en/home), a composer from the Canary Islands who worked with Abels on "Us". youtu.be/EPzBL9CMW2Q?...

Happy Thanksgiving! For day 208 of #TheDiegeticShuffle we're listening to the music that is, perhaps, second only to "Jedi Rocks" in provoking irrational anger from Star Wars fans: "The Ascension Ceremony", sung by the witches of Brendok in episode 3 of the Acolyte.

Old news presumably, but I just noticed Dok-Ondar was apparently at this party?
November 26, 2025 at 1:54 AM
"Stormtrooper JP-054 Karaoke" is a cha-cha that plays in the background of Han's awkward reunion with Qi'ra on Dryden's yacht in Solo. We don't see it, but presumably there's a stormtrooper up on stage singing karaoke just off-camera?

Chukha-Trok was voiced by Michael Pritchard, a comedian and voice actor who appeared on Taxi and Sesame Street and in the Captain EO show. I'm guessing this song was mostly his improvisation. Pritchard has since worked for decades as a motivational speaker for kids.

The great warrior Chukha-Trok sings a little marching song in Ewokese to himself after he joins up with Wicket, Deej, Weechee, Widdle, Cindel, and Mace in 1984's "The Ewok Adventure"/"Caravan of Courage". We're playing it for you on day 205 of #TheDiegeticShuffle.

It's a deep cut on day 203 of #TheDiegeticShuffle! When Pace and Lena, who would one day become the parents of the Freemakers, visit the Vandor Lodge in LEGO Star Wars: All-Stars, someone is noodling on a honkytonk piano. "Welcome to Vandor" is by Michael Kramer.
November 23, 2025 at 1:41 AM
Oh mighty Jabba, let us celebrate your glorious birthday on day 202 of #TheDiegeticShuffle with some galactic funk from Roberto Prado! Max Rebo, Sy Snootles, and Droopy McCool played "Jabba's Birthday Party" in LEGO Star Wars: Summer Vacation.
November 22, 2025 at 1:34 AM
We visit a Tatooine mod parlour on day 201 of #TheDiegeticShuffle for a few different flavors of techno. "The Mod Parlour" was written by Joseph Shirley and Ludwig Göransson, and features Thundercat (aka Stephen Bruner, theamazingthundercat.com, who plays the Modifier) on bass.

We mark day 200 of #TheDiegeticShuffle with a subtle reggae beat in Aunt Z's from season 2 of Resistance. This is another Michael Tavera cue.

Unfortunately the only Resistance source cue listed on GEMA is called (drum roll) "Source", so there's not much more we can say.
November 20, 2025 at 1:44 AM
I don't know what direction Patrick Gleeson was given for this cue, but I am guessing it was something like "give me a tune that sounds like it's being played badly by baby Ewoks." We're enjoying (?) "Wokling Band" from the Ewoks series finale on day 199 of #TheDiegeticShuffle.
November 19, 2025 at 12:44 AM
Does anyone know anything about this slow swing number that plays in the Holiday Special while Krelman is flirting with Ackmena? It's presumably by Ian Fraser, but I never noticed it before or heard anything about it. Does it have a name?
November 18, 2025 at 8:09 AM
A soft bossa nova plays in the Aces' Lounge on the Colossus, letting the audience know it's a more upscale joint than Aunt Z's. "Lounge Source" is another Michael Tavera cue, and it's what we're chilling to on day 198 of #TheDiegeticShuffle.
November 18, 2025 at 12:32 AM
We have another lost source cue from RotJ for day 197 of #TheDiegeticShuffle, which sounds very much like the lost source cue we heard on day 179, "Galactic Dance Blast", but in a different key with different instrumentation. "Jabba Sail Barge Source" was lost at the same time.
