Without significant electoral & government reform in the US, there are no guarantee this situation won't happen again, We can't have this chaos every 4 years. As well, there are all those who supported Trump &some who still do. If the US rebuilds its democracy , it will take a long time.

Yes, we definitely should be closer in multiple areas. We were very complacent in Canada & this change was long overdue. I saw the visit of your royal delegation to Ottawa heard the comments including "We will not bully our way into a trade deal." www.youtube.com/watch?v=bFt_...

Our PM has been working very hard on deepening existing agreements & signing new agreements with multiple countries worldwide in trade/defence/investment. We’re the 1st nonEU member to join SAFE & are deepening our trade agreement with EU & have various agreements with indiv European countries.

He first said that 8 months ago and he said it many times to Canadians since. It's just taken many USians a long time to even notice this new reality. He's the clip when he first said it on March 27th, 2025. youtu.be/dgjybooP-pA

IMHO he implies these are countries we engage we cautiously in specific areas like China, India & now the US. The US once was in the trusted end of the spectrum but is now in the approach with caution group.
December 2, 2025 at 12:08 AM
1/2 PM Carney said there is a spectrum & Canada doesn’t need have to share values with every country with whom we engage. On one end, Russia & N Korea- no engagement. At the other end, the EU & UK- shared values, lots of engagement. The implication was there are countries in the middle. Cont.

Canada is deepening ties with multiple countries, in the past 4 months, our PM has signed about a dozen trade/security agreements. Today is Canada now part of SAFE, for EU defence financing procurement. This change is permanent, we can’t afford to rely so much on a single untrustworthy partner again

Our govt’s announcement is here. We are the first country outside of Europe to join SAFE- the EU defence scheme. This agreement will benefit both our Canadian defence manufacturers & our military & its procurements. www.youtube.com/watch?v=RHxT...

He uses “Variable geometry” as term to explain how individual countries are forming alliances (trade & security) with each other bilaterally & multilaterally. IMHO the US is being shunned for its bullying, extortion and lack or reciprocity & sinking into isolationism away from the rest of the world
November 30, 2025 at 6:36 PM
2/2 For example PM Carney has been facilitating talks between the EU & Trans Pacific Partnership for closer ties (these are 2 large trading blocks with whom Canada has agreements). PM Carney says the world is moving from a hub & spoke system (with US at centre) to “variable geometry”.
November 30, 2025 at 6:32 PM
We have to diversify our trade & allies for Canada’s survival. Trump has used our interconnection to exert leverage over us to try to extort us into becoming a vassal state. The rest of the world is reorganizing itself without the US cont.

Better to watch it on 22 Minutes Tou Tube channel rather than a dismissive US reactor who doesn’t even bother to give proper credit to 22 Minutes and doesn’t even show the entire sketch of PM losing his temper in the Oval Office. youtu.be/ch7zrzkl5Is?...

Also, there's very limited parking in European cities, designed for smaller cars (those large vehicles won't fit in parking spaces). We encountered this Fiat in Bologna, Italy parked between a motorcycle & car, parked at right angles to the curb, inches from the bumper of car beside it.
November 30, 2025 at 5:29 PM
I don't think Europeans would even want buy those massive vehicles in the first place because they won't fit on their much narrow streets and roads. Even their highways are narrower. Here's a photo of an Italian garbage truck I took last May in Florence, Italy. It's the size of a car.

It's patronizing and lazy. I'm seeing other USians reposting with this erroneous label.

The reactor something else. He doesn't give the correct name 22 Minutes, says "SNL is better" (doesn't seem to realize Lorne Michaels & many of the writers & cast of SNL were Canadian) & doesn't play one of the sketches in its entirety). not impressed with this reactor...

Yes. The US is the reason we don't have an aerospace industry. The US pressured PM Diefenbaker to cancel the superior Avro Arrow in 1959 & buy the US Bomarc & Voodos instead. Many engineers left to go to the US & Apollo program. History must not repeat www.thecanadianencyclopedia.ca/en/article/a...
