The Memorial Illumination at the sunken road. #ParkChat

Say hi to my brother if you stop by! #ParkChat

Yep, Ducks in general are a trash organization.

Saturday night is the amazing Memorial Illumination event at Antietam National Battlefield. 23,000 lights - one for each soul lost - illuminate a solemn drive along battlefield roads. Line up along MD34 early! #ParkChat

This was one of our favorite items at the Garfield site (right, @ecb08.bsky.social ?) -- the chair! #ParkChat

A5 #ParkChat @1breannaclaire.bsky.social! This is our question! 😆

For me, it's Bonneville. The Wendover Historic Airfield and the salt flats are both significant for historical, cultural and ecological reasons.

A4 #ParkChat Honestly? Nowhere. These days, I kind of prefer the natural fireworks of meteors and auroras.

Too many people think their fireworks shows are the best, and it's actually kind of annoying. Here's a video from our hotel in 2018 in Omaha, having run out for Pat's dad's illness.

A5 #ParkChat When things seem a little too much, my go to NPS site is the C&O Canal Towpath. Camping, hiking, fishing.... additional nearby sites like Antietam Battlefield and Harpers Ferry or state parks just add to why it's helpful.

I actually thought about just saying "my husband" because sometimes we do take the WRX (and before the Crosstrek, the Camaro, the Lightning....). 😆 #ParkChat
November 26, 2025 at 5:35 PM
A4 #ParkChat I am probably most thankful for our Subaru Crosstrek. Since 2019, that little car has brought a lot of #PublicLands related joy to me and @patred.bsky.social.
November 26, 2025 at 5:18 PM
Q4 #ParkChat Camping, hiking, roadtrip, vacation.... we get to and experience our #PublicLands in various ways. What is one item or piece of gear you are most #thankful for or can't imagine leaving behind when visiting parks?
November 26, 2025 at 5:00 PM
A3 #ParkChat Since 2020, @patred.bsky.social and I have tried to go camping on/around Thanksgiving. Last year, we went to Toronto, so we were out in Sharpsburg a day earlier before driving to Canada.
November 26, 2025 at 4:31 PM
@patred.bsky.social, we should go here, just for the opportunity to get a new photo for Beefy if nothing else! #ParkChat
November 26, 2025 at 4:05 PM
A2 #ParkChat I'd been to the Black Hills several times previous, but that trip in 2023 where @patred.bsky.social and I camped at Elk Mountain (Wind Cave NP) and he woke me up ecstatic over hearing bison grunting in the distance - that's a memory that I will always cherish because he was so happy 😀

I have a ton of photos that I could use for #BlueSkyArtShow #small and most of them are tiny, tiny mushrooms, taken at state or national park sites, like these. #ParkChat
November 23, 2025 at 3:59 PM
Since that program, I'm always looking for and at moths. They are just as amazing as their day-time butterfly siblings. #ParkChat
November 20, 2025 at 2:56 AM
A9 #ParkChat I'm always looking at the little things, but something that is small and I wouldn't have seen otherwise had to be a moth program that was part of my #STEAMinthePark trip to New River Gorge in 2023. I never realized the immense diversity of moths. The first three are from New River.
November 20, 2025 at 2:52 AM
And then there's Hudson-Meng and Toadstool Geologic! #ParkChat
November 20, 2025 at 2:42 AM
A7 #ParkChat I picture a place that requires effort to get to, that doesn't necessarily have cell service. Off the beaten path, by a mile.
November 20, 2025 at 2:41 AM
A6 #ParkChat Laying out on the dock with Rodney, @missmeyeritjhs.bsky.social and other #STEAMinthePark campers at Voyageurs, trying to see the northern lights, and Katherine counting satellites (hah hah hah)
November 20, 2025 at 2:34 AM
A5 #ParkChat Physically, yeah, at those wide open expanses in the western public lands.

As a person in history? There are places that make me feel small when I'm surrounded by the crush of the historical importance. Antietam (Bloody Lane) and Gettysburg (Pickett's Charge/High Water Mark) are two.
November 20, 2025 at 2:30 AM
And I was looking specifically for this one. The Bonneville Salt Flats. You can see the curve of the earth. #ParkChat
November 20, 2025 at 2:26 AM
A4 #ParkChat Crackling firepit.

A barred owl.

Rustling leaves.

The "plop" of a fishing lure hitting the water.
November 20, 2025 at 2:24 AM
A2 #ParkChat This is a tough call. Let's see what just searching "horizon" in my photos drive brings us.
November 20, 2025 at 2:15 AM
A1 #ParkChat For me, I think it's the views. Seeing something I know is a full-sized Jeep that looks like a toy, it's hard to wrap my head around how far away/down it is.
