CAL FIRE recently supported the Wailaki Tribe in securing a rare old-growth redwood log. Tribal members will carve it into a traditional canoe, once used for travel and trade, to feature at a multi-Tribal gathering celebrating culture and connection.

Thinking about deep-frying a turkey?

Every year, hot oil accidents spark fires that ruin holidays in seconds. A partially frozen bird or a small spill can turn into a major emergency fast. If you’re set on frying, take it outside, far from anything flammable, and stay with it the entire time.

That head bob isn’t a dance move — it’s a signal.

During hoist-rescue training, CAL FIRE crews use big, clear motions so pilots know exactly when a firefighter is off the line and the aircraft is clear to lift.

Training like this keeps our teams sharp and ready for real rescues.

Rain can make even familiar roads unpredictable. Before heading out, check that your vehicle is road-worthy—tires, lights, wipers, and fluids all matter in wet conditions. Keep your tank full, reduce your speed, increase following distance, and stay aware of changing weather and road conditions.
