When he looks up and noticed Lawrence standing there, he just sees a human so he runs up at him because "OMG HUMAN" (yknow, dog brain) and startles the fuck out of Law so he fucking decks him and takes him home after observing is unconscious body and realizing he's a weird plant/mushroom anomaly.

He somehow developed human level sapience and Lawrence finds him sobbing in the corner because he has all this extra sentience he's not used to and he doesn't know what he is anymore. He doesn't know what to do with the level of mental capacity he's at now.
