I hate this "Saving-Private-Ryan-Band-of-Brothers" Allied exceptionalism that's just rife in the West. ~3/4 of German soldiers were in the Eastern Front! D-Day was a peripheral conflict and began right at the point where the USSR started to win the war against Nazi Germany
