well it’s literally been a nonstop drumbeat in both mainstream and internet media for four consecutive years
What is the explanation for why the vast majority of people believe things are less affordable now though?

I think it’d be more beneficial if that were explained rather than just saying everyone is delusional.

publishing isn’t driven by some kind of shadowy business interest but almost entirely by increasingly cutthroat competition for eyeballs in the attention economy. stories that validate people’s resentment and fear, their pessimism, that predict doom, that tell people they’re victims - they perform
Point taken, but would you not be curious as to why all those sources are saying that? Like, what’s in it for all the mainstream and internet media to gin up a falsehood that everything is less affordable? Wouldn’t convincing everyone that money is tight be what businesses *wouldn’t* want to do?

if every published voice from random TikTok accounts to every newspaper and TV station in the country started talking about how milk caused cancer, I feel very certain that this belief would soon be extremely widespread regardless of it being totally false

the objective of the TikTok game is to go viral and get 10 million views. what performs better: an accurate description of the low unemployment rate and rising real wages, or sitting in my car in front of my kids crying about how I can’t afford anything? okay now repeat that dilemma a million times

“Statistics” simply report the lived experience of millions of people. That is what you guys can’t comprehend. The plural of lived experience is data
It's possible that the lived experience of millions of people is delusional and invalid. Or maybe it should spart more thought.

How trustworthy are 2025 stats? What does it mean to the average person if the price of private jets and yachts is holding steady, but the cost of stale foods has zoomed?

Sigh, time to argue with the horseshoe theory of extremes about how "ZOG" is an explicitly neo-nazi term, created by a neo-nazi and popularized in The Turner Diaries, and the "Zionist" in the name has nothing to do with Zionism, it just means Jewish.

Jimmy Dore: "You know why? Because our government is occupied by Zionists. That's not antisemitic. That's anti-Zionist. Those are two totally different things."

... I'm not sure what it says that my brain immediately saw that first bit as being exactly fourteen words.

(or that the case of 'remigration now' is also exactly fourteen letters long)
‘Remigration’ is a term that comes out of the European far right. Its use by the DHS account is a sign of democratic and epistemic collapse

Part of why this stuff keeps getting underreported is that our media class can’t get it through their thick heads that this is not a weightless debate over political ideology, but a declaration of war on over 100 million Americans, which DHS is announcing an intent to eliminate
