David Wright has an interesting Hall of Fame case. For example, he played 1,585 games and compiled an .867 OPS. The only primary third basemen in history to play at least that many games and have a higher OPS are:

--Chipper Jones
--Mike Schmidt
--Eddie Mathews

Atlanta Braves managers who hit a home run in the World Series as players:

-Eddie Mathews (1957)
-Walt Weiss (1989)

End of list.

On this day 70 years ago, Doc Brown slipped and fell while hanging a clock and hit his head on the edge of the sink. When he came to, he had a revelation, a vision, a picture in his head. A picture of this. This is what makes time travel possible. The flux capacitor. #Thankful

On this day in 1991, the Braves and Twins played Game 7 of the World Series — one of the greatest games ever. But what happened after the game, in private and outside the view of TV cameras, might’ve been the best part of the whole series. From 2021: www.sportingnews.com/us/mlb/news/...

If it's possible for the best parts of a World Series to come after it has ended, 1991 offered a glimpse of what it might look like.

Today in 1987, Phil Niekro returned to the Braves for one last start. It was a day that healed an old wound and brought proper closer to a Hall of Fame career.

From 2017, my deep dive into that day, with thoughts from Niekro, Dale Murphy and others: www.sportingnews.com/us/mlb/featu...

Something to watch over the final week of the MLB season:

We have three players either one homer or one stolen base from a 30-30 season (Corbin Carroll, PCA, José Ramírez). That would give us FIVE 30-30 players in one season for the first time.

It's not how you start, but how you finish. There have been some players with crazy final-month finishes in the Expansion Era (since 1961). I took a look at the best stretch-run stats for batting average, homers, OPS, RBIs, stolen bases, ERA, K's and WHIP. www.mlb.com/news/best-fi...

A stadium organist will often play the five notes from "Close Encounters of the Third Kind" after a player almost gets hit by a pitch. But I wonder how many fans younger than 40 get the joke.
