A key thing is that it's not focused grouped (good) it's something he internalized from a venture capitalist donor (bad).

Nearly all messaging problems are actually policy and political economy problems.
“Strong floor, no ceiling” is absolutely the type of slogan that a focus group of swing voters will tell you they find appealing after it has been a whole hour and they just want to go home.

It’s a slogan for people convinced this country *really* wants a Mike Bloomberg presidential campaign.

This will probably get me yelled at, because I can see the consensus forming here that "strong floors, no ceiling" is the dumbest of all possible slogans. I would argue that it's actually not that bad, but that it's wrong for this moment (please read 🧵before yelling at me)...

New Yorkers kept telling me the same thing: they’re thinking of leaving because they can’t afford to raise their kids here. Universal childcare isn’t just a promise — it’s how we make this a city for everyone.

It’s wrong to lump all top Trump people in one category. There are differences among them. But they do seem to fall into three (sometimes overlapping) categories:

• Ordinary criminals (grift and corruption).

• Sex criminals.

• War criminals.

These seems, to me, painfully obvious, and should be the starting point hypothesis for any journalist working the trade policy beat.
You have to look at what Trump is doing in terms of tariffs, not in economic terms, but as a mobster would. He is using the tariffs to grift. He does not care who it hurts or if it makes economic sense. He is a career criminal - a convicted felon - and he will keep grifting until he is stopped.
