That is the question, isn't yet......but the field keeps a primary focus on proteogenomics because it is 'faster' & 'easier'. When will the field broadly accept that that will not give us what we really need to know?

Particularly when the 'most prestigious' journals have their share of problematic publications & retractions but try to hide or delay a call on those in every manner imaginable.
Then again, the publishing system is also reflecting how broken our university & funding systems are.

Funny how that is considering proteomes are composed of proteoforms! This is a great addition to promoting Integrative-TDP analyses which actually assess intact proteoforms which 'I see all the time, they are everywhere'...& what need to analyzed to ID the best possible biomarkers and drug targets.

The other provinces need to take a serious look at this review....and also a hard look at the hard questions finally being asked of the system in Australia as well.
Things can't go on as they are and the answer is not simply 'give them more money' as that will only further the broken status quo.

Many of these are no longer productive yet also complain that 'we need to give younger academics a chance'. Then, by all means, make room if you are no longer being productive.

Needs to happen at many Canadian universities, but include complete turnover of Boards as well a wide swath of incompetent senior administrators.

Yes, that 'combined' effort is called integrative top-down proteomics - you can easily read about the concept from even earlier papers.
Glad to see Proteomics get on board. I was also pleased to see that the need to analyze proteomes at the proteoform level was well noted at the HUPO meeting too.

The 'alternative' methods still do not enable truly comprehensive proteome analysis at the proteoform level. Some 'alternatives' detect a few specific proteoforms with Ab's (quality?), but are broadly just other ways to do bottom-up.

Although it will be unseasonably cold (just for the few days of the HUPO meeting!), I doubt any snow accumulation on Sunday. Will feel quite cold due to high humidity. Anybody leaving the hotel/conference should bring warm clothes. That is, I am assuming you flights come through from the US!

Indeed, a truly outdated (already when established) group that subsists on mutual appreciation (e.g. Oh, their work must be good because they are doing exactly the same thing I am, exactly the same way).
Just a way to funnel money to a few select groups at a few select institutions.

The issue is beyond claiming to have identified a POTENTIAL biomarker (my emphasis) but on the supposed 'validation' of findings. Manuscripts I have reviewed over several years fail miserably in this regard, seemingly in order to verify rather than test a hypothesis.

Hopefully those committee meetings were recorded or at least detailed minutes taken so those can be released to the public...nothing nefarious at work then transparency should not be an issue. Right??

If only it were actually proteoforms rather than a few more peptides to infer the identity of a supposedly full length canonical amino acid sequence.

Handed....or have they simply taken it via strategic long-term investment? Having visited several times over the last 20+ years, including last year, science in China is not only international calibre but is now a defining international 'force' in science. Hopefully not stating the obvious.

Platelets are amazing....& more so as so many know so little about them.What has been learned about their contents, functions and breadth of contributions to systems physiology over the last 30+ years is truly fascinating.

Blanchette-Joncas is also Vice-Chair. I recognize 1 name on committee as an MD who probably hasn't practiced in decades, but does anyone have a science bckgrnd? Regardless, most info they are requesting is irrelevant in terms of the quality (or not) of what is funded.
