The european space agency released its Out of Earth Manufacturing white paper last week, and it’s a fascinating read if you’re interested in what’s needed to build real industrial capacity in space.

This was a dreadful evening. Charli was dressed as a kitten and people disapproved of her so much that they actually threw bottles at her. “Why do you keep putting her on, she’s shit,” some people said. Ha!

Charli XCX’s first proper gig. The floor almost collapsed and her dad was very concerned.

I’ve been rereading Nozick, who I suspect was an outrageous tease: slightly seductive, yet ultimately quite thought provoking, even if one rejects his libertarianism. At the very least, his exploration of “workers’ control” is intriguing...

A good organiser is really just a talent scout. A scout who looks for leaders with innate skills (what Machiavelli called “virtu), skills that can be honed into the ability to turn good luck into political destiny. It’s really quite simple. #CommunityPower

The themes of freedom and opportunity absolutely pulsate through these fabulous works by Jacob Lawrence, which depict the story of the Great Migration—when over 1m African Americans moved from the rural south of the US to the industrial north in the early part of the 20th century.

Just started rereading this, which I first read in 2012. I must say, I do find it a rather seductive text. Its critique of both unbridled capitalism and statist-communitarianism, along with its warning about the centralisation of power into the hands of the few, feels especially relevant right now.

Thought I’d share this absoute masterpiece by Nicolas de Stael: “The Football Players”. First saw it in Dijon, aged 12. Sublime and unforgettable. Sparked a very longstanding interest in abstract art too (and encouraged me to start painting).

In all my years of organising, I’ve learned that injustice is like a wound. It festers if you ignore it, but people act only when they feel its pain. Now is the time to feel that pain. To not stay silent or be idle. To organise—and act. Because underdogs often win when they stand together.

Not sure who this is by. Oil on canvas. Possibly of the 1960s. Another work from the Cecil Madden collection—found discarded in a junk shop.

From the labour strikes under Ramses III to the US civil rights movement of the 1960s, a simple guiding principle has always sat at the heart of community organising:

Underdogs often win when they stand together. Organise, strategise, act.

The artist who created it was Barry Learoyd, primarily known for his design work on the 1954 production of Big Brother, starring Peter Cushing. Production work features below:

Here is a picture of a production drawing for the lost 1946 BBC production of The #ImportanceofBeingEarnest , starring Margaret Rutherford (“a **handbag**!?”), which I just bought. Previously, it was owned by the iconic BBC TV producer, Cecil Madden.
