Classic economic externality where the product or negative impact of an industry is not expressly felt 100% by that industry so its impacts get shared amongst the population around each factory. AI centers must be forced to take up the full value of their energy impact.

It’s very sad when you realize we’re plowing over farmland snd forests so we can have data centers for AI (which could do harm and take away many livelihoods) and massive warehouses for Amazon and Walmart in order to get our goods “delivered in half an hour!”

It’s worse than that, in that commercial rates are lower (per KWh) than homeowners pay.
