WeRateDogs turns 10 years old today! A very silly idea to numerically objectify dogs has become one of the kindest and most powerful online communities ever. Thank you for joining us over the last decade. I never knew what this could be until you all showed me. Here's to many more good dogs ❤️

A lot of people tasked with teaching critical thinking and literacy don't seem to be demonstrating they have their own.... We need to worry about a lack of AI literacy among faculty before we can worry about students.

My cat woke me at 5am, deeply concerned he hadn't had breakfast yet. But I also accidentally ate lunch at 10:30, so maybe it's not just pets....

Today I said my class should take a 6 to 7 minute break, which prompted a few of them to crack up bc of that dumb meme, and after they settled down, I informed them now there were only 5 minutes left and the joke was on them. I teach college, by the way. College.

Our job is to teach students the critical thinking and literacy skills to realize why this Forbes headline is dumb.
If you think that professors exist as repositories of knowledge that students ask for answers, you’re missing the entire point of a college education.
We’re here to teach students how to do research, how to analyze and argue, how to think for themselves — how to find the answers on their own.

Get to the office to find a voicemail from my dad, complaining about AI. His specific concern: the two letters are often being printed in sans serif and "everybody knows an I has a horizontal line on top and bottom of it." Keeping his eyes on the big issues, my dad.
