Goldman Sachs spokesman Tony Fratto, in a statement to CNBC, said, “These emails were private correspondence well before Kathy Ruemmler joined Goldman Sachs.” “Kathy is an exceptional general counsel and we benefit from her judgment every day,” Fratto said. Ruemmler did not respond to requests for comment about her emails with Epstein on Thursday. In 2023, Ruemmler told The Wall Street Journal, “I regret ever knowing Jeffrey Epstein.” Ruemmler, who served as Obama’s White House general counsel and as a federal prosecutor, exchanged emails with Epstein while she was a partner with the law firm Latham & Watkins, where she was global chair of the white-collar defense and investigations practice.

My endorsements for Boulder city council
serious times, Boulder needs serious leaders By now, your doorstep and mailbox are filled with political mailers stamped with logos from all kinds of groups endorsing different city council candidates. But what are these groups? Who runs them? Who funds them? Do they follow Boulder's campaign finance rules? What do they do for Boulder outside of election season? Some groups are transparent. They list their leadership and report their contributions and expenditures as unaffiliated campaign committees. Others struggle to maintain an up-to-date web presence, much less disclose who leads or funds them. This latter group can often be heard demanding more public input in decisions. So, the city hires staff, only to be criticized for running too much engagement. They demand more investments in basic infrastructure. So, the city proposes fees to accelerate maintenance, only to be criticized for taxing its residents too much. They demand improvements in public safety. So, the city spends millions of dollars each year sweeping the unhoused only to be criticized for not destroying marginalized people's property more aggressively. They demand "common sense" transportation policy. So, the city spends a decade developing plans for improving the safety of pedestrians and bicyclists, only to be criticized for slowing down drivers. There is a line in the award-winning HBO series "Succession" that I like to remember (spoiler alert): the patriarch Logan Roy's last words to his dysfunctional adult children are, "You are not serious people." We unfortunately live in extremely serious times, and Boulder needs serious leaders. We need professionals who can call on evidence and relationships to address our interlocking and compounding challenges. Only Nicole Speer, Lauren Folkerts and Matt Benjamin have the experience, temperament and values Boulder needs to meet the existential challenges we will face in the coming years. Boulder voters deserve transparency about who supports our City Council candidates and what those endorsements imply about their priorities. In 2021, Councilmembers Lauren Folkerts and Nicole Speer were endorsed by the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA); Speer again in her 2023 mayoral run. While Speer now distances herself from the DSA, Folkerts continues to accept their endorsement. Despite shifts in messaging, both have consistently supported many DSA-aligned policies. Folkerts and Speer are also endorsed by the Working Families Party (WFP), a national organization promoting anti-cap-italist policies. In 2023, WFP-affiliated groups spent heavily in Boulder elections - including ads labeling mayoral candidate Bob Yates an "insurrec-tionist." That reckless and dishonest smear may well have cost him the election. Such tac- reflects Boulder's priorities rather than outside agendas and tics divert attention from real is- ideologies. sues and undercut civility in lo- - Terri Brncic, Boulder cal politics. The platforms of the DSA and WFP call for defunding police, closing jails, and pursuing aggressively anti-business and anti-Israel measures. Some Boulder residents may support these ideas, but many find them deeply troubling and worry about impacts on public safety, small businesses and community co-hesion. This election gives Boulder a chance to decide: continue down a path shaped by national advocacy groups or shift to a more locally-grounded approach. Candidates like Mark Wallach, Jenny Robins and Rob Kaplan offer pragmatic leadership focused on affordability, safety and transparent governance. Their backing comes from Boulder residents and local businesses - not national machines pushing rhetoric and division.
