New Orleanians have long acknowledged that our recovery from Katrina was in large part thanks to many Hondurans and Mexicans, many staying after helping rebuild. We're saddened to see the threat of state violence force many of them to close their businesses to protect themselves and employees.

So, no matter how/whether you observe/celebrate Thanksgiving, please remember to be kind to the people you work with, to others in your communities, and to yourself! Acknowledge the good in the world, in each other, and in yourself. Be thankful for what you have but desire more and better for all!

I've come so close to burning out many times in recent months, and I know that I often work too hard. But I am proud to have worked with Indigenous communities everywhere I have lived, and I now wake up every morning excited about the work I might help accomplish and the knowledge I might help share
