Brent River Park
@brentriverpark.bsky.social
We are the Brent River & Canal Society who campaigned to create the Brent River Park in Ealing, London 50 years ago. It’s your park, join us to protect it💚💙
As it’s John Clare’s birthday, here’s his homage to long tailed tits or bum-barrels, from his poem “May”. Such a delightful dialect word!

“Bum-barrels twit on bush and tree
Scarse bigger then a bumble bee
And in a white thorn’s leafy rest
It builds its curious pudding-nest”

Luke FitzHerbert’s wife Kay was very much a part of his campaign to create the Brent River Park 50 years ago so it was wonderful that she could be with us to share our celebrations… and some cake!

It looks like a rural idyll but this is the Brent by Bittern’s Weir yesterday. Some of the team were helping @brentpollution.bsky.social with river fly monitoring , checking for aquatic larvae which show the health of the river. Pleased to say the count was good this time.
