"A Chance to Shine"

This boulder probably isn't the star of many shows, but it had a few nice moments in the spotlight.

"How to Explain"

I feel lucky to have made this shot; I saw this light out of the corner of my while walking through a quiet forest. I took a couple of focus stacks, and the light was gone before I knew it. I am no stranger to quickly fleeting light, but I was not expecting it midday in a forest!

"Jumble"

Inspired by folks with careful and quiet compositions of the southwest, I've always wanted a nice photo of some of the beautiful boulders that tumble down from high canyon walls.

It's a collection of photos I made while backpacking in some canyons with Eric Bennett. We ended up having quite an adventure. I wrote a journal about it, in case you're curious about our gnarly adventures.

#stream_of_consciousness 2025-03-04

I took this photo in White Sands National *Monument* in 2017 (it became a park in 2019). I never really did anything with it but now I think it's a perfect candidate for this project. I still enjoy it after 8 years, which I can't say about all of my old work!

Hat tip to my buddy Kevin Sink who alerted me that nature photography's next hot spot, northern Illinois, had a beautiful coat of hoar frost.

Oh, and I'm getting ready to release a new gallery soon. Sign up for my newsletter to see it.

"The Elements"

Another one of my all-time favorites. I made this on a multiday hike in the rocky mountains in 2021. Although it literally represents a small slice of space and time, it brings back a flood of memories and emotions from the entire experience.
