I think, despite strong delivery, the focus on the big picture/leadership positioning was lost, and too often the Greens allowed themselves to be defined by others, and were strategically reactive - for eg. courting rural votes vs shoring up suburban and urban votes.

Lots of chat about the Greens, who delivered policy is spades, being punished in #GE24 is missing a key point: the majority of Green voters are values/principles voters. It's not just about what you do, it's about how you do it, how you communicate it, and how you frame it.

The tallies will be on today.

If anyone has live Google sheet links to any constituency tallies share below.

They will be added to the map over the next few months if shared.

Please add them in the comments

An unsung hero of Irish election data is www.irelandelection.com

I don't know who maintains it but it is a great resource and it looks like they're all set to go to update the site with this years GE. All candidates information is already available for view

Not only are the tallies a fun resource when viewed in this way. It is also a valuable dataset for research.

Jonathan Pratschke and I used this data to investigate the mechanisms behind the Sinn Féin surge in the 2020 Irish general election.

I feel like a big change will happen when politicians and political parties start taking this app seriously, then journalists will have to take it more seriously, then everyone who wants to influence the news cycle follows.

This week’s #GE24 article focuses on transfers, examining Exit Polls and all candidates since 1948.

– Voters typically express 3–4 preferences
– 30% of votes transferred at least once
– Inter-coalition transfers are common
– 10% of TDs decisively elected through transfers
