Places which are good for cars are bad for kids, and vice versa.

My single biggest stress and worry for the first 5 years of my kids' life was them getting killed by a driver. If you haven't had a toddler who's a runner, you don't know real fear.

It got better when we moved to the Netherlands.

You can have kids or cars, but you can't have both.

Having received ballots for both NL and California recently, the California one is much more accommodating, with options in many languages, detailed instructions, etc.

As wonderful as Paris is, I would rather my kids bike to school in Utrecht than in Paris...

Look, Paris is great, but it's highly doubtful it beats Utrecht on this measure.

That being said, Dutch cities are resting on their laurels and could learn from Paris (ESPECIALLY school streets)

Europe needs to wake the fuck up and realize there is no such thing as negotiation with Trump. He's going to do what he wants no matter what. It's time to block his number, tell him to go to hell, buckle up, and do the hard work of building a genuinely independent continent instead of grovelling.

Britain (and Ireland) are woefully ignorant of climate change and still think of it as a "somewhere else" problem. Planners in Ireland wouldn't let me build eaves to help shade mid-day sun and they were stunned that I could ever worry about a house being too warm. Absolute dinosaurs.

Yeah, and incredibly dangerous too. If you look at the plate it almost always starts with a "V" meaning it pays very low taxes as a business vehicle. Absurd since it's usually being used for personal reasons...

They had an absurd tax loophole where you didn't pay BPM if it was for "business" which saved 15-30k. That ended in January but they still shouldn't be able to get in at any price through the absurd Individual Vehicle Approval path
