We have this framed statement on display in the NOC Library. Written in 1363 (the preface to Chirurgia Magna) by medieval surgeon, Guy de Chauliac, widely regarded as the Father of Surgery, it states the qualities of a good Surgeon, and is an early example of professional standards.

Lord Moynihan gave the annual

Romanes Lecture at the Sheldonian Theatre. In his time Moynihan was the most famed of all British surgeons, and letters in our copy of the lecture describe him as "spick and span.."!

The group study room and study area in the entrance of the library will remain open. Library staff will be happy to retrieve books from the silent study room for you during this time. If you are in need of a quiet study space during this time your closest libraries are the NOC Library at the Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre and the Cairns Library at the John Radcliffe Hospital".
