2) Owls need to turn their head that far because their eyes are fixed in their sockets. Blood keeps flowing to their brain because owls’ cervical vertebrae have wider openings for the blood vessels. I'm glad I brought a roll of Tri-X film on that trip. #BirdoftheDay #owl

For today's #BirdOfTheDay, a Great Gray Owl in Dairyland, Wisconsin, during the 2006 irruption of these #Raptors. I liked the way Tri-X film depicted the winter scene much better than the color slides. Seeing the contact sheet inspired me to return to my roots in black & white photography.

Driving home along Clifton Boulevard in Cleveland, I saw a couple dining by table light on the terrace at La Ville Lumière and made a note to myself to come back one evening. Then I came to my senses, turned around, and stopped to make a few pictures.
