Slot tactically has not been there this season. When I saw Isak starting despite not fully fit I was concerned.

Equally the recruitment has been poor. No player that played 90 mins today was signed last summer - big concern.

Thanks for the reply Mo! Yes I have to agree with that, it is no doubt interconnected and more complex than I make it out. Lots of changes in personnel is clearly a huge issue too as well as concentrated fitness issues at RB

I am torn between 2 points right now:

1. Our lack of cohesive pressing from the front is allowing players to play more accurate long balls which is hurting loads.

2. Our distribution from the back post Trent is poor. Only Virgil/Robbo can do that which isn’t enough. Robbo can’t start every game

I agree with what you’ve said. My only concerns are:

1. Our pressing. Dont see our current crop providing enough hence why we struggle with precise long balls vs just panicked hoofs

2. Our FBs are not comfortable in possession. So need a player to drop deep - almost like a back 3. Grav can do this

He will do if he stays fit. That’s sadly always been his main issue since playing for us. A run of games will do him wonders!

Also winning a title last season definitely allows for some extra patience. Klopp and even Rodgers were given plenty of time to turn around difficult situations - even if the later eventually failed to do so!

It was 100% the right decision! Our performance in this cup up to the semi finals throughout the years has always been linked to

1. Our injury situation
2. Strength of the opposition
3. Level of rotation of the opposition.

All 3 were against us, but we did right in selecting a weakened team.

We need better pressing from the front. It is clear that Salah, Wirtz and to a degree even Gakpo are not good enough off the ball.

We also need to alter our system so that Kerkez/Frimpong/Bradley are higher up the pitch which utilises their strengths. Poss use Robbo/Grav as a 3rd CB when he's fit

Only being 3 points better off than last season feels very strange!

You could argue Hendo, Fabinho, Ox, Milner and Keita based on 22/23 for Szoboszlai and Mac alone was the real upgrade that changed us from a side that was worse than Man U and Newcastle to one that got to over 80 points immediately. Gravenberch this season and even endo’s contributions were good too
