Although, you need to be sure to use mirror modifer, and turn on clipping so it joins together nice. There can be a little werdness with clipping at the seem, but havent found it too bad. I've started recording my sculpting, so will link you up when im doing clothes in a few weeks incase its useful

For the shrinkwrap, there is an option to apply it to the face of the mesh where you can set the distance from the face also, that works well. There is an option under snapping to snap to faces also that can be very useful when starting to build out the cloth in the first instance

I've heard Daz Studio is ment to be awesome for clothes etc. although i've never used it myself. Yeah the clothes and blender take a bit of work, if found subdevision > shrink wrap then maybe another subdevision modifer works well
