Those of us who are SA survivors are used to the mass shrug in response to even the most overt evidence of horrific behavior. Epstein's crimes and the complicity of many influential figures involved have been known for decades (’05 to be exact). It's never mustered much interest or consequence.

“You’re too complicated!”

“Don’t overthink it.”

I’m not gonna look for the rest of them, but I know from experience that life in the western world is full of these mechanisms.

The MAGAs and such are merely pushing that screw further down into the fabric of society, the holes were already there…

One reason I have nearly no patience with elites is that they have the scope, power & protection to act & they almost never do. Whether it's an assistant or wrier in Hollywood or a high schooler or carpenter standing beside me at Broadview ICE, I've seen regular people show so much courage. SO MUCH.

…and it goes without saying, but I’m going to say it anyway: it was the biggest example of hit dogs hollering I’ve ever seen, because a lot of them clearly had good reason to fear it.
Even more so because we never had cancel culture. We had the beginnings of a suggestion of cancel culture and most privileged people and every vector of institutional power treated it like the biggest moral hazard the world has ever seen and spent an astonishing amount of effort to shut it down.
Honestly, we could have used a lot more cancel culture.

Because all capitalism pushes towards one desired outcome, the elimination of worker costs. AI allows companies the fond fantasy they can do it without resorting to slavery.
There are hundreds of articles and explainer videos on how AI is costing companies far more than they produce in revenue, how AI has failed at almost every level of business integration, and STILL(!!!) you have one company after another adopting it. The world can't get any dumber.

The reason that “drain the swamp” messaging worked wasn’t because it’s an inherently reactionary idea! I think a lot of people with not very coherent politics see the way nothing seems to get fixed and want someone to TRY. And if liberals/progressives/etc. won’t, right wingers will pretend to!
last time i said this a number of people worried that it sounded too much like “drain the swamp/qanon” and to those people i say: grow the fuck up

Bakunin wrote about this very thing!

"Does it follow that I reject all authority? Far from me such a thought. In the matter of boots, I refer to the authority of the bootmaker; concerning houses, canals, or railroads, I consult that of the architect or the engineer.
So there is an issue with authority.

Authority that arises from experience, character, and skill seems to me to be different than authority by hierarchy, force, or status.

Thoughts?

Seems also worth noting that this in large part because we've built a society in which the traits that would make one more likely to be a rapist are also the ones most associated with succeeding within it
It’s been pretty clear for a while but brought to rack focus today, that successful people are encouraged to view rape as a perk of success and a great many successful people need no encouragement at all.
