Hey, it might be belated introduction time.

I'm Blair. I'm a pharmacist in Vancouver's DTES who occasionally teaches OAT and harm reduction.

This account also half-assedly represents a dormant music business so I'll post/repost about music, beagles, books, autism (I have a autistic kid), etc...
That moment when you find out your pension/the pension for everyone who works at your health authority is being invested in a tobacco company. Gross.
December 5: BCI has ~$67.93M in Philip Morris International, the US tobacco firm.☃️ Besides selling cancer sticks, PMI keeps operating in fascist 🇷🇺 - in 2024 it was #1 foreign firm by revenue, and paid the Kremlin $220M in profit tax (i.e. funded war on 🇺🇦). My BCI, what a robust ESG policy you have!🎉

So incredibly tragic and stupid.
A 5-month-old baby died, & 3 surviving children, ages 2, 4, & 5, had to be hospitalized with rickets, osteopenia, vitamin D deficiency, & significant developmental delays bc their parents put them on “alkaline diets.”

Anyone saying alkalization has health benefits is a murderous liar & a charlatan.

This is important to understand.

Many anti-vaxxers genuinely believe that vaccines are fricking killing kids left and right, so in their mind, they are trying to minimize harm.

This is false... but it doesn't prevent them from believing it.
Wow. Tracy Beth Høeg, the FDA's new acting director of the Center for Drug Evaluation and Research (CDER) just put this slide up during her presentation to ACIP.

We have left reality.

It's really frustrating that a lot of the media just sort of frames the Trump admin as "wading into a hot debate over trans issues that have roiled american politics" when it's like, clear that they are motivated by a desire to demean trans people

Some homework here as I haven't spent as much time with Vijay's work as I should have since "Uneasy." "Sanctuary" is sounding really lovely on first listen.

(also regret to this day not making it out to his last Vancouver performance).
Also just released SANCTUARY, a new EP with dear brothers Alam Khan (sarode) and Nitin Mitta (tabla)

This fetid landmark, this historical stain on humanity is primarily due to the stunningly reckless obliteration of America's foreign assistance agency earlier this year.

Led by the richest man on earth. In secret, on a weekend. With zero analysis or discussion of its catastrophic impacts.

Here's the thing, though: There's joy in also just doing the nice thing for people! Accommodating those who don't "need" it isn't Letting Them Get Away With It — it's just being nice! If you must, it's being generous to them. That's okay, you're a generous person! Let yourself be okay with that.

It's very hard to understand that everyone should just be accommodated. There's enough to go around, truly. You've been sold a story that we're all scrabbling for some finite resource, and They are taking it from you, and the answer to that taking is systemic punishment, backed by systemic violence.

For World AIDS Day 2025: the stigma of HIV & AIDS was so strong that many avoided talking about their diagnosis until their final days.

In other cases, the families kept the secret for decades after.

Freddie Mercury, Liberace, Rock Hudson, Gia Carangi, Anthony Perkins... and Isaac Asimov.
In 1983, science fiction writer Isaac Asimov had triple bypass surgery at NYU Medical Center, during which he contracted HIV from transfusions.

His doctors advised him not to disclose his status because of anti-AIDS sentiment.

He died 1992 from AIDS-related complications.

Australia recorded ZERO cases of cervical cancer in women under 25 for the first time since they started tracking the cancer in the 80s.

This is the power of vaccines.

The HPV vaccine is extremely effective at preventing cancer.

This should read by all health care providers. Assumptions around autism,* especially autism in women are often outdated, wrong, shaming and harmful.

*as this applies to other conditions (ie mental health issues) it’s a good reminder to always try to centre a patient and their experiences (1/2)

What's the deal with balcony solar?
Cora Stryker joins me to explain how "plug-in" solar took Europe by storm and is finally, via Utah (?), making its way to America.

i like to think i’m a little more level-headed with my nyt criticism than most on here.

but the masthead has a history of running stories with strong anti-psychiatry framing + loose editorial standards whenever rfk jr. gets going about SSRIs. feels similar to what they did with trans kids
Setting aside any merits, boy oh boy, the timing on this NYTImesMag cover piece in the midst of:

-RFK Jr.'s wildly conspiracist campaign against SSRIs
-the RW pro-natalist push
-the escalating hideousness of the Epstein story
-an unabated youth mental health crisis
