Berliner in exile near Freiburg. Foodie, NYT addict, and Packers fan. Enjoys riding his mountain bike in the Black Forest.

Protagonists shine brighter when dealing with adversity. Whenever Sibbet (and Jessica Hecht) appeared in 'Friends', David Schwimmer's disappointment, annoyance, and despair became palpable.

Is there a comparison that sticks out, e.g. a bag of crisps that's 1.99 € in Germany is 3.49 $ in the US? I'm not trying to annoy you - well, at least not this time - I'm just trying to understand the magnitude.

The pictures nicely capture the atmosphere. It's really an enjoyable place, but busy weekends should be avoided.

If there's no Kartoffelpuffer mit Apfelmus stand so far, this is a business opportunity begging to be exploited.

Hey M, can you please name an example or two? I'm curious what food items became significantly more expensive.

Colmar's Christmas market is great if you're into such things, especially due to the picturesque town centre. On weekends, however, the place is packed.

Infantino makes you long for his predecessor Sepp Blatter who found not one, but two of his lovers among his daughter's friends.

Sorry for the late reply. That is a very tempting offer. Unfortunately, I'm not that flexible at the moment. I have to meet a deadline for a larger project, and then I have to spend some time in Berlin.

I find it surprising that WBD doesn't believe in itself and doesn't want to stay independent. HBO's storytelling has been the industry's gold standard since the 'Sopranos'. What's to be gained regarding product quality?

True, but, again, that's exactly the point. Most Germans wouldn't even know how to generate an em dash while ChatGPT doles them out liberally. So in my neck of the woods, a true em dash in an English text generated by a German is much more suspicious regarding AI than in the US.

Tbf, your thesis contains en dashes, not em dashes, and that's relevant. Most Germans don't know the difference as em dashes are a US thing. If a German with no special interest in copy editing suddenly uses em dashes, that's suspicious.

They bet on dark blue with a bit of white resulting in more of a premium vibe. Unfortunately, not much is premium with Lufthansa these days.

I'm still mildly traumatised from the time when Seán discovered a Seemannsheim. For the better part of what one could call a maritime week, he mentioned seamen in various contexts.

From my understanding, you're 50% German, so your genetic foundation is solid regarding bureaucratic tasks like this one.

Make our people proud, Sebastian!
