The underlying message seems to be that adoptees should be "more grateful" and put more effort into being "less of a burden"... something that would more readily seen as disgusting if it came from biological parents (forgive me if that is the wrong term to use)

Exactly. It isn't so much that a PAT is the wrong call, but that a 2pt conversion there isn't a totally baffling one

They gotta back off Son Goku. First time he died it was saving Gohan from being kidnapped by a Saiyan. By the time he came back there were already two more Saiyans ready to kill Gohan. Fought them AND got crushed by an giant ape. Gohan left while he was in recovery then Goku had to save him AGAIN
