It feels like a violent punch to Stede’s gut. It’s not jealousy, no, it’s just because Jack is so stupid and vulgar and mean and Ed deserves better than that. If there’s a tiny smidge of jealousy in there, which there isn’t, it’s just because something about Jack’s presence makes Ed almost unrecognizable to Stede. Jack comes stomping back, crumbling up the empty beer can in his hand and throwing it away. “This shit’s fucking boring. We gonna find a party or what?” “I think I might just go home, actually.” Stede gets on his feet and brushes sand off his jeans. “Suit yourself,” Jack says in his gruff voice, picking up the last unopened beer before sauntering off towards Ed’s bike. “You sure?” It’s unfair how Ed pulls those eyes on him now, and adds a bit of a pout too, knitting his brows. “Yeah. I, uhm, I have a thing I need to, you know, get to. Be at.” Ed slowly stands up, watching Stede pick up the crumbled beer cans littered all around them, as far away as Jack could do a lazy throw. “You said you’d be free all night.” Stede whips around. “You didn’t say you’d bring someone.”

Ho for the Holidays bizarrelittlemew Summary: After revealing to his ex-wife that he has a boyfriend, Stede ends up promising to bring him to the Christmas Eve dinner they always have together – Stede, Mary, her new husband, and the kids. Problem is, it's a lie. Stede has never been more single. And now, he needs a plan. Or rather, four plans. Plan A: Find a boyfriend before Christmas Eve. Plan B: Find someone to pretend to be his boyfriend before Christmas Eve (Lucius will jump in, if necessary, but Mary sort of knows him, so it's not ideal). Plan C: Pretend to break up with non-existent boyfriend right before Christmas Eve. The pros are possible sympathy points, the cons are the non-zero chances that Mary will figure out there never was a boyfriend in the first place. Plan D: Come clean. Stede really doesn't want to do plan D.
