Since May 2025, the species has been designated as “threatened” by the Committee on the Status of Endangered Wildlife in Canada (COSEWIC).

This magnificent ‘Scots plane’, as sycamore was called historically here, is just along from the more famous Birnam Oak, on the bank of the River Tay at Birnam. My best guess at the sycamore’s age is 17th century planting.
