Not a great day to be a Buffalo fan today. The Bills and the Sabres both have an inability to score and a crisis of confidence.

How far we have come that a dozen people shot with at least 4 deaths barely makes the NYT. No one should have this much power. Are mass shootings now this ordinary?

Perhaps Nero can fiddle while we wait for the quo. Just because corrupt actors know how to do this does not mean the absence of an explicit action on the horizon. Will the NYT remember when it drops? Good grief, no one gives anyone anything worth that much without corrupt intent.
Corruption requires explict quid pro quo. It is not corrupt to take an action that aligns with the interest of a person who gives you a gift, unless the official action was in direct response to that gift--a bribe. Terms matter. Accuracy and fairness matters. Regardless of what social media wants.

Undermining the NEH, National Archives, Library of Congress, and the Smithsonian all at once also tells us this 360 is not just about higher ed or research but about how we have (finally, slowly, imperfectly) expanded the American story.
The scope of issues confronting research and scholarship is 😱🤯 among them for publications the profusion of AI slop.

But the direct political intervention in funding and publishing research as well as in libraries and universities shows this to be a 360 crisis.
Since this was published yesterday, NPR reports JAMA joins NEJM on the list of journals that confirms they’ve been sent threatening letters by Trump’s DOJ, ominously referencing their tax-exempt status in a bid to compel regime-friendly editorial choices.
