The metaphor for the religious right desperately trying to rationalize still supporting trump.

😹😹😹 Just started BRIGANDS & BREADKNIVES while on a break at work, and the opening line had me laughing by out loud (we’re talking a full on snort laugh). @travisbaldree.bsky.social making good on the promise of F-bombs. #Booksky

Jeez, sounds like ICE should stop wearing masks and have uniforms that actually identify them as who they are instead of running around like an obese gang of trump supporters. Radical notion, right?!

Yay! Downloading this now!

Sheri & I are at a writers retreat with some of our best friends. This evening, I finished the rough draft for my next story for @audiomazes.bsky.social. “The Writer’s Block” comes out next year. It’s a cozy urban fantasy in the spirit of LEGENDS & LATTES by @travisbaldree.bsky.social. #writersky

96% of black women voters chose Spanberger over Earle-Sears. As excited as I am about last night’s results in Virginia (what a night!), the rest of us need to quit putting the weight of saving our democracy on Black women. Time and again, they do the homework and show up when the rest of us don’t.

Holy crap, Virginia! We did it!!! We got all three major races!!! @abigailspanberger.com @senatorhashmi.bsky.social & @jonesjay.bsky.social all won! #ElectionNight

I voted early this year (a couple of weeks ago). Virginia, get out there today, if you haven’t voted yet, AND VOTE BLUE! 💙 #ElectionDay

Every author knows the most obvious sign that “Field of Dreams” belongs in the fantasy genre isn’t the mysterious voice and visions. It’s also not the ghosts of baseball players. It’s the idea that “If you build it, they will come” without a lick of marketing. #Writersky

6. Sectional Outlining doesn’t help you outline an entire book. It simply helps you get past a complicated part of your story. This is when the plot and the players get too complicated to track in your head. Doesn’t mean you outline the rest of the book, just that part.

Just started KATABASIS by @rfkuang.bsky.social , because like my book TO HELL AND BACK, our stories focus on mortals going to Hell on a quest. A few chapters in, it’s fun to see how we both latched onto similar concepts and twisted them in such different directions. Love what she’s done here.

For The Dragon Spy (set in 1983), I needed a clear timeline of events prior to the book’s start to determine how old characters were and what happened during certain presidential administrations. This also helped me figure out how events like Watergate impacted the Greenhouse and the children in it.

I’ve used this multiple times: primarily in Gidion’s Blood and The Dragon Spy. For Gidion’s Blood, my publisher insisted they wanted a single POV. A lot of the tension in that book centers on a vampire hired to hunt him down. I outlined what both Gidion and Jun (the vampire hunting him) were doing.

Off-the-Page #Outlining offers a way to add tension into a story. Not every book requires this, but sometimes outlining what’s happening beyond the scope of your POV character(s) can make things more exciting by forcing your main character to react to others more. #Writersky #NaNoWriMo

An #outlining method you probably shouldn’t use for #NaNoWriMo, because it would be cheating, is the “Rough” Rough Draft. It’s a potentially useful outlining method, though. Think of this as the ugliest of rough drafts. No dialogue or descriptions. Just who does what and when. #Writersky

@travisbaldree.bsky.social just read your Goodreads message about your new book. I love everything about this. Excited to read this!

I used this method to write my YA spy novel The Dragon Spy. This method did work for that book (it turned out great!), but I disliked the experience so much that I plan to do full outlines for the second *and* third book in that series before I start writing either of those two sequels.

Headlight #Outlining is my least favorite method. It lets you get started writing your book, even though you don’t have a definite ending yet. It’s one of the riskier methods of outlining, but it’s better than getting nothing written at all. #NaNoWriMo #Writersky @nano2point0.bsky.social
